How to Choose an E-Bike for Delivery Work in Vilnius

The right e-bike lets you finish more orders with less effort; the wrong one costs you money on repairs and lost shifts. Before you buy or rent, check these eight things.

1. It must be legal

In the EU, an e-bike with pedal assistance, a motor of up to 250 W and assistance that stops at 25 km/h is treated as a bicycle — no registration, number plate or vehicle insurance needed. Faster or more powerful bikes fall under different, stricter rules.

2. Enough range for a full shift

A dual-battery bike lets you work a long shift without stopping to charge. Remember that the real range is lower in winter and with a heavy load.

3. Tyres and comfort

Wide 20″ fat tyres soften cobblestones, kerbs and potholes and grip better on wet roads and snow. A comfortable seat and gears make long shifts much easier.

4. Good brakes

Disc brakes are the minimum for delivery work. Hydraulic disc brakes need less hand force and stop more smoothly — useful in traffic and when you wear gloves.

5. Weight

If you often carry the bike up stairs or lift it onto kerbs, every kilogram matters. A lighter bike is also easier to handle in tight streets.

6. Protection against theft

Delivery bikes are left outside restaurants and apartment buildings many times a day. A strong lock and a GPS tracker are a must.

7. Repairs and spare parts

Every day without a bike is a day without income. Choose a model with parts available in Vilnius and a workshop that knows it.

8. The total cost

Count not only the price of the bike, but also the accessories, repairs, worn parts and the risk of theft. Compare it with renting: rent or buy an e-bike?

Frequently asked questions

Can I deliver on a regular bicycle?

Yes, delivery platforms accept regular bicycles too. An e-bike simply lets you do more orders per shift with less effort, especially on hills and in winter.

Is a more powerful e-bike better for delivery?

Not necessarily. Above 250 W or 25 km/h a bike is no longer treated as a regular bicycle, and different rules apply.
